今日はMountain Viewから同僚がオフィスまで遊びに来て、ランチに行った。
Today one of my colleagues, who is working in the United States, came to my office for pleasure and went to lunch.
彼はロシア出身のカーネルエンジニアで、かつ大のアニメファン。
He is a kernel engineer, came from Russia and he is an enthusiastic anime fan.
今回は東京アニメフェアというイベントを見るために娘さんと来日するぐらい好きらしい。
He seems to like it so much that he comes to Japan to go to the event named Tokyo Anime Fair with his daughter.
自分は最近のアニメは全く分からないから、とりあえずランチをセッティングして日本の料理を食べてもらおうかなと。
As I don’t know recent animes totally, first of all, I arranged a lunch for them to enjoy Japanese foods.
で、選んだのは沖縄料理。ランチは混むから事前にメニューを選んでおいてくれと店に言われたんだけど、これが難しい！
So I selected a restaurant that serves Okinawan foods. They asked me to choose from their menu because the restaurant is crowded at lunchtime. But it was difficult for me to do!
だって、メニューがウチナーグチなので、日本語に変換する必要がある。
Because I needed to translate it into standard Japanese from ‘Uchinah-guchi’, the Okinawan dialect.
例えば「グルクン」。
For instance, a word ‘Gurukun’.
標準的な日本語では「タカサゴ」と呼ばれる魚なんだけど、手元にあった電子辞書にはこの単語は無い。
It’s a kind of fish called ‘Takasago’ in standard Japanese, but the word is not in my electric dictionally.
「タカサゴ」は「カサゴ」の一種なんじゃないかと推測してググると、’Japanese stingfish’とな。なるほど。
I guessed that ‘Takasago’ is a kind of ‘Kasago’, googled it and got the answer, ‘Japanese stingfish’. I see.
そんな苦労はさておいて、メニューから娘さんと共に選んでもらった。彼は「カツ丼」が良かったようだが、「ラフテー丼」をチョイスしてもらった(^_^;
Apart from my burden, I had them choose from menu. He liked ‘Katsu-don’, I nevertheless had him choose ‘Rafuteh-don’.
そうそう、娘さんは典型的なロシア女性といった感じで、シャラポワをイメージしたら分かりやすいかも。背も高くて、ちょっと日本人にはいない体型だなぁ。
BTW, his daughter looks like a typical Russian woman. She reminded me Мари́я Ю́рьевна Шара́пова. I seldom see a slender woman among Japanese like her.
ランチでは色々面白い話が聞けた。
I could hear a lot of interesting stories in lunchtime.
彼は「マリみて」や「あずまんが大王」を知っていて、日本のアニメのDVDは高いから「ニコニコ動画」を見ているらしい！
He knows ‘Marimite’ and ‘Azumanga-daioh’. To my surprise, DVDs of Japanese anime is so expensive that he watches ‘Niko Niko Douga’!
さらに、mixiのアカウントを持っていて、「rioのプライベートのサイトはrio.tcだけど、mixiのアカウントも知ってるよ。足あとを付けておいた。」「足あと」は日本語（笑）。
In addition, he has his account in mixi. "I know Rio’s private site, rio.tc, and your account in mixi. I left ‘Ashiato’ in your page in mixi.", he said. He said "Ashiato" in Japanese!
ランチの後オフィスに戻ってからは、同僚がカーネルの技術談義、いや講義なのかな、を彼とした。
From the time when we came back to our office after lunch, my colleagues had a technical training rather than discussion about kernel with him.
その間、娘さんはこれまたPSPをやってるし(^_^;
During the session, his daughter played a game on PSP!
彼らはこの後、六本木に行ったみたいだけど、初めての東京を楽しんでくれてると良いなぁ。
They seemed to go to Roppongi after this. I hope that they are enjoying their first Tokyo.
さて。
Now.
日本の大企業のIT部門の責任者はこういう事をよく言う。
The tops of IT department of Japanese large company often say like that.
「オープンソース？ああ、誰だか分からないけどコミュニティとかいうのが作っているプログラムでしょ？」
"Open source software? Ah, it’s a software programed by unknowns called ‘community’, isn’t it?"
こう聞くと、自分はいつも疑問に感じる。
This always makes doubt in my mind.
「マイクロソフトのエンジニアの顔と名前を知ってますか？」と。
"Do you know a name and face of a engineer of Microsoft?"
さあ、自分は顔や身長、趣味や彼が日本語で書いているブログまで知ってるぞ！
Here, I know his face, height, hobby and his blog written in Japanese too!
そして、アニメは彼を「ロシア発カリフォルニア経由トウキョウ行」という特急に乗せてくれたよ！
And Japanese anime put him on the superexpress from Russia for Tokyo via California!
Sorry for my poor English skill :)P
